Say NO to parking charges at St Anthony’s Bank Car Park

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the proposal to introduce parking charges, ANPR enforcement, pay machines, bollards, height restrictions and associated signage at St Anthony's Bank Car Park, Humberston Fitties. This car park has long provided free and accessible parking for residents, visitors, families, walkers, anglers, nature lovers, and those seeking to enjoy the unique environment of Humberston Fitties and the surrounding coastline. It plays an important role in supporting community wellbeing, tourism, and local businesses. While we acknowledge concerns regarding anti-social behaviour, unauthorised overnight parking, and long-term vehicle use, we do not believe introducing parking charges is the right solution. Instead, these proposals risk creating a range of unintended consequences: Displacing vehicles onto nearby roads throughout the Humberston Fitties Conservation Area. Increased parking on residential streets, grass verges, and other unsuitable locations. Additional pressure on nearby facilities and private land, including access routes and neighbouring parking areas. Discouraging visitors from using the area during a time when many households are already facing financial pressures. Reducing opportunities for people to access the coastline, open spaces, and nature which contribute significantly to physical and mental wellbeing. Potentially damaging local tourism and reducing visitor numbers to the area. Notably, the Council's own Highways Authority has recognised that the proposals may discourage use of the car park and could result in vehicles parking elsewhere within the Humberston Fitties road network. We urge Haven Leisure and North East Lincolnshire Council to reconsider these proposals and instead explore alternative measures to tackle specific issues such as anti-social behaviour and overnight parking, without penalising the vast majority of responsible residents and visitors who use the car park appropriately. We call on decision-makers to reject the introduction of parking charges at St Anthony's Bank Car Park and preserve free public access to this valued community asset.
