The Golden Haddock Awards - nominate your favourite chippy!

A new competition to find the best fish and chip shop in Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes has been launched by local MP Melanie Onn ahead of National Fish and Chip Day next month.
The Golden Haddock Awards will invite residents from across the constituency to nominate their favourite chippy, celebrating the businesses and traditions at the heart of the area’s fishing heritage.
Launching the competition last week, Melanie said the awards were designed to recognise the role fish and chip shops continue to play in local life, from family run takeaways in Grimsby to long established seafront favourites in Cleethorpes.
With strong local loyalties and long running debates over where to find the best fish and chips, the competition is expected to attract plenty of nominations from passionate residents.
Melanie said: “Grimsby and Cleethorpes is very much the spiritual home of fish and chips, so what better way is there to celebrate National Fish and Chip Day than by finding the area’s best chippy?
“Our fishing heritage is something local people are incredibly proud of. Fish and chips are part of our identity here, whether it’s a Friday night tea with the family, a trip to Cleethorpes seafront, or grabbing chips after work.
“We’ve got so many fantastic chippies across Grimsby and Cleethorpes, all with their own loyal following, so I know competition is going to be fierce.
“I’m looking forward to seeing who residents back for the title. May the best chippy win!”
National Fish and Chip Day takes place on Friday 5 June, with nominations for the Golden Haddock Awards now open online.
